NATUROPATH VIRTUAL APPOINTMENT

All appointments with Dr Ashley von Martels ND are virtual whether the patient is located locally in Toronto or within Ontario. Virtual appointments are available to Ontario residents only due to restrictions from the provincial regulating body. A naturopath online appointment provides comparable quality of care as an in-person visit without the time and cost of commuting.

PATIENT CONCERNS THAT ARISE WITH A NATUROPATH VIRTUAL APPOINTMENT:

• Testing: Many patients are concerned about how testing will be performed with a naturopath online appointment. Naturopaths in Ontario have never been allowed to draw blood in the office, and as a result, testing has always been performed at Lifelabs. You will be provided with a requisition to take to Lifelabs, they will perform the blood draw and Dr Ashley von Martels ND will receive the results via a secure online portal within a few days. Certain specialized tests (saliva, urine, stool tests) can be ordered through another laboratory, the kits will be shipped to your home, and once you have collected the sample, they will be mailed back to the laboratory.
• Acupuncture: At times acupuncture is recommended as part of your treatment plan. If you are located in Toronto, you will be referred to a local and trusted acupuncturist. If you are located outside of Toronto, you will be encouraged to find a local acupuncturist. This approach can be beneficial for some patients as certain insurers will cover both naturopathic and acupuncture services separately. This allows patients to save their naturopathic benefits for consultations, and have their acupuncture treatments covered under a separate insurance category.
• Physical Exams: When patients require physical exams for their case, they will be referred to their family medical doctor. In certain situations, patients can perform physical exams at home with the appropriate equipment (i.e. a blood pressure cuff, or heart rate monitor).
• Security: Appointments are conducted through a secure video conference system or by phone.
• Payment: Our secure online portal will allow you to upload both your insurance information and credit card information. Your credit card information becomes encrypted once in the system, and even those processing payments will not have access to the number.

A NATUROPATH VIRTUAL APPOINTMENT IS NOT IDEAL FOR EVERYONE:

Physical exams can at times be important for diagnosis or rule out emergency situations. As a result, there are certain situations where a naturopath online appointment is not recommended. If you are suffering from a heart condition, high blood pressure, neurological symptoms, uncontrolled asthma, or a cough that won’t go away, or any other condition where physical exams would provide important information to your diagnosis, or your state of well-being then online treatment is not recommended.
